Michael Greene, Re: Lucent Inferno

Thanks for posting the URL for the Web Review article about Lucent
Inferno:
webreview.com

This article makes it clear that Inferno is primarily intended to
compete with JavaOS. It is interesting to compare this article to the
Reuter's news article (10/03/97 "Lucent Technologies Inc unveils
Inferno real-time network OS).

The Reuters article mentions Wind River Tornado and a product from
Chorus (a French company) as competition; and Motorola, Acorn
Computer, Diba, Psion and Microsoft WindowsCE as potential competitors
but, omits any reference to JavaOS.

When Mike Matsumura (Sun Java), quoted in the Web Review article,
says that Inferno seems to be better equipped than Java for
encryption, security and real-time control; does the term "real-time"
have the same meaning as with Wind River's VxWorks or IxWorks RTOS?

Best Regards,

Frank
