The site allows subscribers to preregister for the FaxPC free fax-to-E-mail service. FaxPC will ofer free, secure and private fax-to-E-mail services for subscribers around the world, allowing corporate, SOHO, and personal users with access to fax transmissions from anywhere in the world that they can receive E-mail transmissions. Subscriber fax numbers will be issued in the continental United States. "The sheer cost of transmitting faxes over regular telephone lines is driving businesses to use the Internet for facsimile transmission," said Stephen Swift, president of Image Power. "FaxPC offers users a free service that will reduce their transmission costs, while increasing the privacy and security of receiving faxes". A recent Dataquest survey estimates that the number of pages faxed through the Internet rather than over phone lines will reach 5.6 billion in 2000, up from 44 million this year. "Imagine being on the road for a business trip, and anxiously awaiting a highly confidential fax," said Mr. Swift, "with FaxPC, subscribers who can access their Internet inbox from their hotel room can have faxes sent directly to their personal E-mail account." Similarly, corporate subscribers to FaxPC may received faxes directly to their inbox on the PC in their office, avoiding issues of confidentiality and costly time delays in the mailroom. "Now anyone with Internet access can receive faxes without having to own a fax machine," concluded Mr. Swift. The company is using the latest in black and white compression technology, JBIG2 technology, to provide advanced compression for transmitting the faxes over the Internet. This will allow fax files to be highly compressed and more efficiently transmitted to the desktop. To preregister for the service, visit www.faxpc.com. When the service is activated, a free private fax number will be issued to each registered user via E-mail. (c) Copyright 1999 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com |
