chris: i read this as more of a strategic partnership vice a merger or acquisition. ITG and tradebook will joining forces (i.e., capital) to develop a "super" proprietary ECN; It's basically a giant land grab, with each network looking to stake out the biggest slice possible of what will someday be a giant on-line trading net...THE big board.
