CAIS Internet and John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. Announce Agreement
Leaders in Technology and Property Development Will Deliver High Speed Internet Total Solution to Premiere Hotels
WASHINGTON, D.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 1999-- In a decision that leads the industry in making properties Internet-ready, John Q. Hammons, Inc. (NYSE: JQH - news) announced today its selection of CAIS Internet's (Nasdaq: CAIS - news) broadband services and patented OverVoice technology as the preferred Internet access solution in at least 48 properties, including Embassy Suites, Radisson, Crowne Plaza and Sheraton hotels. John Q. Hammons chose CAIS Internet for its combined nationwide backbone and OverVoice solution that eliminates PBX congestion, replicates or exceeds Internet office-like broadband speeds in each installed room, and delivers business travelers the valuable high speed Internet amenity from CAIS Internet in one-point of contact.
''CAIS Internet's total solution of broadband access and patented OverVoice services makes it sensible and cost-effective to deliver the Internet from one-point to multi-points, and fits with John Q. Hammons Hotels' reputation for delivering innovative and turnkey amenities,'' said CAIS Internet CEO, Ulysses G. Auger, II. ''CAIS Internet solves many properties' cost and technical problems to increase property value and make buildings high speed Internet-ready.''
John Q. Hammons Hotels, known for its forward-thinking developments of upscale properties, will install CAIS Internet's total high speed solution, including its OverVoice product and dedicated access to CAIS Internet's nationwide backbone, in premiere properties nationwide by fall 1999.
''John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. has been at the forefront of numerous industry innovations, such as atrium design, oversized rooms and personal service desks,'' said John Q. Hammons, founder, chairman and CEO, John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. ''The agreement with CAIS Internet is another example of our commitment to providing the highest quality amenities and services for today's business travelers.''
OverVoice technology is a cost-effective and sensible solution to existing hotel infrastructures and makes properties Internet-ready at speeds up to 175 times faster than 56K dial-up connections. OverVoice technology is simply installed on top of the property's existing telephone system and alleviates PBX congestion while creating an Ethernet local area network. When combined with dedicated high speed Internet connection, such as HyperDSL or T1, OverVoice provides users an uninterrupted, dedicated high speed Internet connection that can be shared simultaneously among many users in a hotel or apartment building.
