Perhaps the most interesting news this week regards the Internet and healthcare, with two competing announcements.
Infoseek Corporation (Nasdaq:SEEK), home of GO Network™ (www.go.com), announced a new Health Center with content from drkoop.com, an Internet consumer health network led by former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop. This will allow the GO Network's 24 million users access information pertaining to Health News, Family Health, Health Resources, Health & Wellness, and Conditions & Concerns.
Healtheon Corporation (Nasdaq: HLTH) and Misys plc, parent company of Medic Computer Systems, Inc. announced that they have signed a letter of intent to provide Internet-based practice management and clinical services to approximately 65,000 physicians in the U.S. This agreement enhances the merger announced separately between Healtheon and WebMD which will form the largest Internet e-commerce business serving the healthcare industry.
If consumers weren't confused before, they will be now. If they need healthcare information, will they go to GO or go to Healtheon?
...or will they be going to STAY? |
