larry....re "perceptions" the perceptions of a negative pc market created by the weak performers has rained on dells parade, just as mikey said, turn competitor strength to weakness...is this not what the market perception has done and caused the decline in dell stock price???? it is an excellent strategy by ibm/hwp/cpq, because it temporarily places dell on the defense and in effect neuters their ability to grow into other areas with concern of stock price downside....think of the "perception" of dell investing in new bricks and mortar in a dying business....again the "perception" was sold by the competition, and at this point they ate dells lunch in the pr arena..forget about balance sheets, this is not what business competition is about...you set up a "perception" that your competitor is weakening, demonstrated by his stock price...how many customers read an annual report on their vendors...but i guarantee everbody who has ears and eyes have been exposed to gerstner and what he "envisions" ibm to become.....remember the pc, storage et al...is not in ibm's long term vision....
