First Star Energy Announces Annual General Meeting

CALGARY, ALBERTA--First Star Energy Ltd is pleased to announce that its Annual General Meeting will be held at 3:00 pm, June 24, 1999 in the Viking Room at the Calgary Petroleum Club. At that time a new slate of Directors will be presented for election.

"These Directors will provide First Star with the qualifications and expertise required to continue to add value to the company," said Mr James A. Malcolm, Chairman and President of First Star. "I aim to build on the solid foundation already present in the company by developing its high impact prospects while managing risk to create high returns. Augmenting the Board of Directors is the first step toward achieving this goal."

Agreeing to stand for election are:

MR CLIVE J BEDDOE. Mr Beddoe is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of WestJet Airlines and was responsible for the company's initial capitalisation of $28 million. Westjet commenced flight operations in February 1996 and at this time has moved 4 million passengers, generating around $275 million in gross revenue since its inception. Prior to Westjet, Mr Beddoe built a series of successful businesses including development of 101 - 6th Avenue, Calgary (leased to Petro Canada), the Career College, a paper recycling company and a plastics company.

MR MURPH N HANNON. Mr Hannon is President of Canadian Hydrodynamics Ltd, a position he has held since 1994. From 1981 to 1994 he was Vice-President. Canadian Hydrodynamics manages the largest drillstem test library in Canada. Mr Hannon is also President of Murcon Development Ltd, a company involved in oil and gas play generation and participation, and in development of real estate and hotels in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC. Mr Hannon has been involved with Westjet Airlines Ltd since its inception, and has been a director of Westjet since 1997.

MR ROBERT J IVERACH, QC. Mr Iverach received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary (1969), a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta (1970) and a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics (1971). He was called a member of the Law Society of Alberta in 1972 (Barrister and Solicitor) and has specialised in taxation since 1974. Mr Iverach is a founding/current partner with the law firm of Felesky Flynn (1978 - present) and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1990. Mr Iverach was the Founding Editor of the Canadian Petroleum Tax Journal in 1988, has been the President and a Director of the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society and was a member of the Income Tax Committees of both the CPA and IPAC. He is currently the President of the Calgary Scout Foundation, a member of the Board of Governors of the Calgary YMCA and a director of Maxx Petroleum Ltd.

MR ROBERT W MACKENZIE. Mr McKenzie is a partner with Northridge Canada, and Executive Vice President of E-Zone Networks inc. Mr McKenzie was a co-founder of MetroNet Communications Corp.

Prior to the merger of MetroNet with AT&T, Mr McKenzie was an Executive Vice President of MetroNet from October 1997 and a Director since July, 1996. He also serves as Chairman of MetroNet's Audit Committee. From January to December 1996, Mr McKenzie was a consultant and strategic advisor to the Chief Executive Officer of TransCanada PipeLines Limited, prior to which he was President of TransCanada Energy Ltd. Mr McKenzie was a co-founder of Northridge, the premier gas marketing company, and served as President of Northridge Canada Ltd and as an Executive Vice President of Northridge Petroleum Marketing Inc.

MR JAMES A MALCOLM. From 1979 to the present, Mr Malcolm has been President of Tetrarch Capital Corporation, a corporation engaged in providing capital to early stage companies. Mr Malcolm was Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer from 1990 to 1998 of AccuMap EnerData Corp, a company engaged in providing a revolutionary software information system to the Canadian oil industry. During this period, Mr Malcolm received an Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Western Canada, a businessman of the year award for the City of Calgary and AccuMap was twice a finalist for an Alberta Science and Technology Award. AccuMap was acquired by QC Data Services in march 1998. Prior to AccuMap, Mr Malcolm was a managing director of MerBanco Inc, from 1996 to 1990, a merchant bank; a partner at the Code Hunter law firm from 1979 to 1986; and a shareholder of PSI Energy Software from 1986 to 1990.

MR JOHN E SQUAREK. Mr Squarek began work as an engineer trainee in 1996 with Amerada Petroleum Corporation. By 1972 he was Gas Plant Superintendent at the Olds Gas Processing Plant. From 1972 to 1977 Mr Squarek was employed by Pan Ocean Oil Corporation and served as Production Manager for North America; Project Manager in Nigeria; and Chief Engineer, Europe and Africa in London, England. Mr Squarek was a consulting engineer with Farries Engineering in Calgary from 1977 to 1980. From 1980 to 1984 Mr Squarek worked for Santos Limited, the largest oil and gas company in Australia. At Santos he was General Manager - Technical and supervised over 350 personnel from Exploration to Construction, and the Santos $1.4 billion Liquids Project. This project included the construction of field facilities and gathering systems for 30 oil and gas field, a 900 mmcfd gas processing plant and related liquids stabilisation and fractionation systems, and pipelines for oil (800 km) and gas liquids (over 1000 km). From 1984 to 1987 Mr Squarek was a founding director of Petroleum Management Associates, a petroleum engineering consulting firm. On the merger of this firm with ORCA Petroleum NL, he became Managing Director. Orca was a public company with petroleum interests in Australia, Colombia, Belize and the US. In 1989 he became General Manager of ERT Explosives Pty Ltd. During his 3 year tenure at ERT Explosives, sales increased from $1 million to over $10 million. Mr Squarek became President of First Star Energy in June 1995.
