If IBM or HP exited the PC business, Dell would be in even better shape. Let's not forget both IBM and HP can barely grow their overall business. HP's revenue increase was a measly 3%. I don't care what the margins are, that's a problem.

Margins are one component. Revenue growth in another. Companies that fail to grow their revenues, year after year (IBM/HP) are becoming "speciality" companies, with less and less impact. Much of their margin increases are due to reducing overhead...which cannot be repeated quarter over quarter.
