Tyler Named Driver of Second ISM Racing Entry at Indianapolis 500
INDIANAPOLIS - Brian Tyler, a veteran of 10 Pep Boys Indy Racing League starts, was named today to pilot the Delco Remy-Microphonics car, the second entry by ISM Racing for the 83rd Indianapolis 500.
Tyler, 31, and a native of Parma, Mich., but who now resides Anderson, Ind., home of Delco Remy, attempts to qualify for his first Indianapolis 500 race. His last IRL start was at the Transworld Diversified Services Indy 200, at Walt Disney World Speedway, in Orlando, Fla., back in January.
He finished 14th while starting for Truscelli Team Racing.
"I'm very happy about the chance to race in the Indianapolis 500," said Tyler. "I know the guys at ISM Racing have a good car and a good history at the Speedway. Jeff (Ward) and Steve (Knapp) have done well here and I hope to have a great run here also.
"This is a big confidence builder for me and I would like to thank everyone at the Pep Boys Indy Racing League for working with me and giving me a good recommendation for a ride."
Team co-owner Bob Hancher was equally impressed with Tyler's abilities.
"Obviously this is a great opportunity for us to work with Brian, our third straight rookie at the Speedway," said Hancher. "We have had the opportunity to have the past two Bank One Rookie of the Year's with Jeff and Steve."
Tyler's Delco Remy-Microphonics car will be a G Force-Aurora. His first start in a Pep Boys IRL race was at Walt Disney World Speedway, in 1998. Tyler's best start was 11th at Charlotte last year and his best finish was sixth at Las Vegas, later that season. |
