I have NEVER had a machine down for hours, let alone days due to a OS problem. Hardware problems are a different matter.

No difference to the end user. If I could ever figure out what was wrong, I'd say what it was. The whole thing froze and I would get BSOD if I had too much downloading too quickly, especially using something like RealPlayer. And afterwards, I couldn't boot up if the CD-RW was plugged into the parallel port. So maybe it was hardware, maybe software, maybe how they interacted--- who cares? I don't have problems like that when I use the Mac, and from what I here, neither to most other people.
