We have stopped.
I know bridge well. As a young man, used to play several times a week. Haven't played now for many years, and am very rusty, but I still remember it well.
Actually, there aren't that many rules which HAVE to be followed. There really are only a few, governing what is a legal bid, what is a legal card to play (have to follow suit if can), how to count the score.
What there are are a lot of conventions. But it's not unlawful to break them; it just makes your partner very mad! Like when you start the bidding with only 5 points in your hand and no five card suit. Or when you bid seven spades but are missing the ace of spades. Stuff like that. But not really rules, because you are allowed to break them with no penalty if you want to. Society has a lot of those, too. But they don't have the force of law. |
