I also hope US makes it to the next World Cup...as far as winning one, well....nice to dream, isn't it?
Indeed... as for the first part, they still have to take out some reasonably strong contenders, Mexico, as usual, and then the Ticos (Costa Rica), who are getting better every year, ever the fierce competitors, albeit not always effective, and possibly another surprise amongst the members of CONCACAF.
As for winning the Cup... there are major countries that have had such dreams for years now...
To name a few....
Uruguay (of former glory from the beginnings of the tournament 2 x Champions).
Hungary... Twice finalists, so close, and the favorites in 1954. They can be a tremendous contender....
Spain... the eternal disappointment, in spite that at the club level, one of the strongest countries.
England... still waiting to repeat their "at home" victory of 1966
The Netherlands... Twice finalist, The Orange machine... can they make it next time around ?
Czechoslovakia... As a single country twice finalists also, (now two different countries, The Czech Republic, and Slovakia)... but still the same passion. |
