America Online (AOL: news, msgs) generated almost $7 in revenue for every marketing dollar spent last year, according to a Business week study of the marketing efficiency of 15 public companies which derive all their revenues from the Internet. Auction site Onsale.com (ONSL: news, msgs) had the best results,gaining $9 for every dollar spent, while Yahoo! (YHOO: news, msgs) generated only 53 cents. The average revenue return for every marketing dollar spent online was $2.70 in 1998, down from the previous year's $3.37 average.
