Chuckie - Re: "Looks like it may be another month or so before the 180nm Dixon shows up "
WRONG !
IT's ALREADY HERE !
Intel's 0.18 micron process is IN PRODUCTION !
The following announcement by Sony includes a description of their 400 MHz Pentium II notebook computer.
Among these models is a retail first, a notebook with a sizable 15-inch XGA active matrix LCD display packed with a 400MHz Pentium(R) II processor.
The 400 MHz Mobile Pentium II in that machine is none other than Intel's DIXON QS - the DIXON Quick Shrink - a 0.18 micron version of the original 0.25 micron Dixon - but still using 5 metal layers (instead of 6).
Intel "regains" the MHz lead in notebooks !
Note - this is a 0.18 micron Pentium II with 256 Kilobytes of L2 cache integrated on to the Pentium II chip.
