Hey..We're The Best!....Novell Tops in InfoWorld Competition: Best Network Operating System

PR Newswire - March 11, 1997 16:43

Novell's IntranetWare Bests NT, Solaris and OS/2 Warp Server

REM, Utah, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing Novell's (Nasdaq: NOVL) string of honors from top trade publications, Novell's IntranetWare network operating system received the highest ratings of any similar solution in a comprehensive comparison published in InfoWorld's March 3rd issue. Titled "Novell's the One," the InfoWorld article compared Windows NT Server, OS/2 Warp Server, Solaris, and IntranetWare in eight categories. IntranetWare, Novell's full service Internet/intranet platform, received an overall score of 7.0 out of 10.0, compared to scores of 5.7 for Solaris and Windows NT and 5.0
for OS/2 Warp.

IntranetWare outperformed the others in four specific areas:
implementation, file and print services, directory services, and
interoperability. In fact, in the category of interoperability, IntranetWare was the only solution to receive an excellent rating, consistent with Novell's strategy of providing the industry with non-proprietary, open solutions for heterogeneous environments.

"InfoWorld's recognition of IntranetWare underscores the momentum we see for our directory-enabled server platform," said Anthony Antonuccio, vice president of product marketing for Novell. "We're pleased that we're receiving honors for a solution which our customers can invest in with confidence and which surpasses other offerings in side by side comparisons."

Kevin Puent, senior network analyst for Nortel Communications Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Northern Telecom, said, "We're not surprised by InfoWorld's findings and are proud to acknowledge that we are currently migrating to IntranetWare. After our successful migration from NetWare 3.11 to NetWare 4.10, it was the logical choice. We have begun to deploy IntranetWare for the entire division and expect that our end users will be pleased with consistent Internet/intranet access. Plus, my team's task will be made easier
with the network-wide consistency that the migration to this standards-based platform will bring."

This latest recognition arrives on the heels of two recent awards given to Novell's products. NetWare 4.11, the foundation for IntranetWare, won the BYTE Magazine 1997 Editors' Choice Award of Distinction given to the outstanding information technology products of 1996. In addition, InfoWorld's 1996 Product of the Year Award in the network operating system category went to IntranetWare, and Novell's IntranetWare Client for Windows NT captured top honors in the network client software category.

Founded in 1983, Novell is the world's leading provider of network
software. The company offers a wide range of network solutions for distributed network, Internet, intranet and small-business markets. Novell education and technical support programs are the most comprehensive in the network computing industry. Information about Novell's complete range of products and services
