I can't imagine having an adversarial relationship with one's physician especially at my age and state of health. I am convinced that my physicians know me as a person and are eager to help me achieve as good health as I can achieve. As a Kaiser member I can visit a completely-staffed emergency room for $5 -- and they never fuss if it isn't serious. Kaiser has patient advocates who really help one get what he needs. When I had a heart attack five years ago, my cardiologist (assigned to me on the fly) ordered up bypass surgery by a Kaiser team at another non-Kaiser hospital that cost Kaiser HMO over
$100,000 in fees to that hospital. I'm convinced my care and their concern for my health is the best I could hope. The boss is one of my former MBA students and I taught her quality and personnel management. I am glad I taught so well!
