I think that the HAUP skyrocket was because the are proposing a personal computer-based, electronic commerce TV service and not just because of their hardware.

Regarding the Matrox G400 review: 3dfx (and Nvidia) would have been lambasted if that was their chip and the stock would probably suffer one of those infamous 200% drops. <g>
