From CD TO PC - as the Tool to Get Music for Teenagers and Young Adults
Mom and Dad Are Also Trying Digital Downloading of Music Via the Internet
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 1999--The PC is replacing the CD as the tool to pipe music into the bedrooms of America's teenagers and young adults, according to a survey by MCY Music World, Inc.(a), which is launching a major music digital download platform on the Internet later this month.

Nearly half (48 percent) of participants age 18-24 have downloaded music onto their own PC via the Internet, and more than half (55 percent) say they would prefer to download individual songs at a low cost rather than purchase an entire CD.

''Digital download is giving music lovers the ability to become their own record producers, selecting only those songs they want to purchase rather than being restricted to an entire CD that may contain songs they don't particularly like,'' said Bernhard Fritch, CEO, MCY Music World. MCY's website - mcy.com - to be launched the end of this month, will have the largest catalog of songs than can be downloaded for $.99 to $1.99 per song.

Nearly nine out of 10 (88 percent) of those age 18-24 also said they would purchase more music if the cost was less in general.

Though not as popular with other age groups, nearly one of five (19 percent) individuals between the ages of 25-54 have downloaded music onto their PC via the Internet. More than one third of participants (35 percent) said they found the downloading of individual songs at a low cost more desirable than purchasing an entire CD.

MCY Music World is a pioneer in online digital distribution of music and is revolutionizing the way the world listens to, purchases and distributes music. As the largest online distributor of music and music merchandise, MCY has exclusive rights to an extensive catalog of songs ranging from Bob Marley, to Miles Davis, which can be digitally downloaded in CD quality or better. The Company has developed unique electronic tracking systems that ensure MCY's music industry partners and royalty collection societies receive automatic payments. With a digital warehouse capable of holding more than 5 million NETrax(TM) (digital downloads), brought to the consumer via the high-speed debis network, a division of DaimlerChrysler, MCY is positioned to become the industry leader. MCY Music World is headquartered in New York with offices in the United Kingdom and Germany and plans to expand operations into Japan.
