Yes, I would say, it works, but your are really dependent on the functionality AND reasonable bids in the market.

I also think that someone like Yamner could provide "better" executions on the shown bids, as they have direct access to many order entry systems and MMs (S. Goldman once outlined that on his thread), and that can be the crucial point rewarding some extra teenies to bucks in frenzy opening times.

With Datek you have to rely on both uninterrupted web service (phone lines are way too slow when minutes, if not seconds are decisive) and that your order is granted execution, ie the MMs fill ISLD and don't simply go away.
Or even worse, if you are asking, that any takers on the ask may take your shown ask one time, which needs good volume.

With all due respect also to Datek (and I have got some good execs @ and slightly before the opening, too) that can be unnecessarily risky in connection to delayed execution reporting.
