Stitch, Bosco & al,

On a different topic, the elections in Indonesia is entering an interesting phase:

dailynews.yahoo.com

The assessment appears to be that no one single party will have enough seats on its own to nominate its candidate for president. The horse trading will begin in earnest post the elections (June). I find the implications very interesting and potentially disturbing for the region long term, if the political landscape in Indonesia follows that of India (i.e. no one political party can govern for long) Meanwhile, I hear big business is rooting for the status quo - i.e. Habibie. C'est la vie.

Locals are saying they do not expect real unrest until AFTER the parliamentary elections.

OTOH, Korean is showing what can be achieved through leadership and a nation pulling together as a whole. I wonder whether an economically resurgent Korea would serve as an incentive for Japan to really get its economy going again?

Best regards to all,
Steve Yeo
