Good article. It sounds like US West would agressively go after the national DSL/"fat pipes to the house" market with Frontier and connect em to the fat global backbone pipes of Global Crossing. Then fill up massive Frontier Server Farms with applications, content and storage services for customers around the world. Other logical mergers along this strategy would be companies that can "quickly" connect DSL pipes to the homes and businesses in the major cities in Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. This strategy would maximize the volumes of data flowing thru the merged networks and push them way ahead of their competitors. It would ramp their data flows quicker than anybody else, and generate the revenues needed to push Fiber to the home before their competitors. It could even position them to be the logical distributors of worldwide private/cable TV and pay TV etc...

A big push on DSL will drive the cable upgrades to move faster. Companies like Harmonic will benefit from this.
