Not familiar with Tomkins...wasn't Volvo just bought?
As to Renault, here's stuff clipped from recent news:
<< ''I think it certainly turns the heat up (on AGCO) in terms of relative market size and market clout,'' said Lisa Shalett, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein.
..But one possible partner for AGCO is France's Renault SA , Shalett said.

''If New Holland and Case were to kind of come together and double their critical mass, Renault might be swamped'' and could seek a partnership with AGCO, she said.

Barry Bannister, an analyst at Legg Mason Wood Walker, said AGCO could define itself as a niche player and remain independent, or could combine with a European company.

However, he also said that if New Holland and Case cut production after a merger, ''it would be a positive all around, including for AGCO.''>>
