Carbon dating

Hello Mohan:

Because in the book, the authors claim that using carbon dating the brass/metal item was dated to bc xxxxx.
It is same as carbon dating, C14 dating, carbon isotope dating etc.

To the best of my knowledge, carbon dating can be used with things that were live once, like skeletons, bones, wood etc. Since, they were breathing air, thus CO2 in air, that contains 0.0004% (of total C) of C14, they have a certain amount of C14 in their body. Now they are dead. C14 is decaying and by measuring the decay you can know when they died and hence the age. Half life of C14 is about 5000 years, The method is quite reliable up to around 50,000 years.

Thanks.
