Several things go through my mind.

1) Looks like the trend is big will get continue to get bigger.
2) Market dominance in own industry is the key. examples (intc, msft,...aol?, yhoo?)
3) Technology (owning and/or developing) is also key.
4) Owning wire and delivering content is not enough. Hard to make money in commodity. Must have technology.

I believe AOL upto now has had the lead in technology. However, a deal with yahoo is very important to keep that lead. Remember they also get Broadcast.com access with yahoo.

Yahoo has enjoyed the dominance in a commodity business because of brand name, ease of use, and first to market. However, in order for them to stay ahead, they needed Broadcast.com. And with AOL and its technology, they can continue to grow.

Anyways, seems to me, they both need each other in order to grow. We shall see how this folds out.

Later.
How do you feel about this?
