OT * OT* OT * <<It began to go wrong when the ACLU and the Supreme Court took God out of the Schools>>

And which God would that be? Your God? My God? Hindu God? Christian God? Jewish God? The Sea God? Mountain God?

Do you begin to see a problem here? Schools are run by the State. Should the State promote a God? Which one? What about those who don't believe in God? Those who believe in multiple Gods?

God is not in the schools because this country was founded on the premise that the State has no business promoting one religion over another. Or even promoting religion over no religion. Some folks forgot that. The ACLU and the Supreme Court reminded them. Take a long look at whether you want the State teaching your children religion.

It is curious, but I have found that the great majority of folks I know who feel that schools (the State) should promote religion are the same folks who rail against the State for meddling in it's citizen's private lives. Fairly inconsistent IMO.

As regards the recent spate of school shootings and as regards the general high level of violence in our society, In also find it curious that many are quick to point the finger of blame at violent movies, video and computer games, yet rarely do they point to the organized violence that we call games. Football, hockey, boxing, wrestling etc., which we accept with nary a peep. Even stranger is the fact that I have yet to hear anyone point to what is happening in Yugoslavia when talking about violence. I know that my kids realize that video and computer games and movies are fantasy (because I never pass up an opportunity to discuss almost everything, at length, with them). I also know that what they see on the "news" (I put that in quotes because IMO it has evolved into something more akin to entertainment than news, but that's another topic) they know to be reality. Day in and day out the images of REAL violence pour into our homes, yet few ask, what role does the REAL violence that governments perpetrate against others plays in these terrible convulsions of violence that we see with increasing frequency. Sorry for the rant, but its upsetting to see this blamed on taking god out of the schools. The problems are much deeper and more complex than a bumper sticker slogan and the sooner we do the hard work necessary to address them the better. Aloha
