The version I am familiar with is:

"gotta see a man about a horse"

I used to employ that expression, to signify that I had to leave the room for a minute or two, until somebody pointed out to me that it was a euphemism for going to the bathroom. (Just as, in my long-ago non-swearing days, I used to use the word "crap", being unaware of its original meaning.)

Makes me wonder how many innocent-looking words & phrases in our present vocabulary had similarly shady origins.
