DOug - Re: "do you agree with Jim Cramer's praise of Gerry Parker"

In the early 1990's, Intel was faced with Cyrix and all comers being able to legally make Intel-Compatible CPUs by using Intel Patents by means of a "PATENT LAUNDERING " concept - that is, if their CPUS are made in a third party's fab as a foundry - and that third party DOES have an Intel license, then the stupid courts decided that patent right transfers to and CUSTOMER of the foundry.

Intel then made a decision - internally - that said - "Hey - we can't win via our legal system which has given away our patent protection- so we're going to make our competitors match our production, technology, and manufacturing prowess.

Intel then set out on an aggressive FAB expansion that brought on stream 5 BRAND NEW 8 inch wafer fabs since 1993 - Fab 14, Fab 15, Fab 11, Fab 12 , D1B AND Fab 18.

Gerry Parker was perhaps the key guy who developed that strategy - of just blowing away the competition by virtue of expanding production on a massive scale.

Parker eventually headed up ALL of Manufacturing AND TECHNOLOGY development - a single POINT-MAN to guarantee that NEW PROCESS TECHNOLOGY could be developed and RAMPED INTO PRODUCTION without AMD - where AMD = ANY MAJOR DISASTERS - like the other AMD.
