While I must admit that I'm never 100% convinced of anything, I believe that Citrix has the technology needed to fill a significant need, and that MSFT is no threat in the immediate future. The main problem with more widespread use of the product isn't the technology or Microsoft, it's fear of the unknown at the end user level. People have become accustomed to their PC's and look at it differently than the MIS. It is the latter that has to worry about a whole network collapsing because some clown used a contaminated floppy to play Doom during his lunch break. It is the latter who feels the multiple expenses and defects of fat client networks.
I have put a lot of time and effort into studying CTXS, and I think that I finally understand the dynamics. I have put my money where my mouth is, gradually increasing my holdings. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time if I turned out to be wrong, but the odds are on the side of the bulls as far as Citrix the company goes. CTXS the stock could be another matter.
Of interest because the underlying principle applies to companies like CTXS too is George Gilders's post....
