I've heard others say that the planned sale is really a drop in the bucket compared to what is traded on an annual basis. I ignored gold for the longest time until everyone started saying it was dead forever. That intrigued me. Now the market in it is interesting -- the reaction to these silly announcements.

I think we both live in a great nation, and although I am not a pessimist by nature -- I feel that something is coming to humble us. Recently, I have had a chance to "sample" TV a little during my move --- it was bad when we got rid of ours 4 years ago, but now not having seen the slow changes for the last few years -- it seems to have gone to he** in a hand basket. Lots of antichrist stuff -- all the time and much directed at children.

Everybody looks for solutions to the violence, by asking what is wrong with us collectively. Everything is the fault of society -- no one individual is responsible.

To be fair, I saw a rather good editorial in the paper shortly after the shootings -- the author -- someone I enjoy reading, Thomas Sowell, pointed out that one of the things that is taught in schools is that there is no one correct moral way to live -- kids are taught to reject parents and institutions and come up in their peer group with what is right for the situation -- effectively driving a wedge between parents and children. He said under this circumstance, perhaps we ought not be so quick to blame the parents of these kids .. I think there is some truth to that.

But ultimately -- unless one understands he/she is responsible for his/her own actions there is no way that an understanding of the God's grace can come about.

I look at our president and see a real tragedy -- first that he is leader of our country, but then the personal tragedy of someone who appears to have no moral compass.
