Hello Dan,
I've had some similar thoughts concerning Corvis.
"It is important to note that it takes a while to get an optical networking idea/prototype/beta product accepted by the major carriers.."
A lot of weight seems to have been placed on the backs of two early press releases and a web site that appears to still be evolving, if not still under construction [without the signage saying so].
Even the hyperbole offered by some early investors is hard to read, and should be taken with a grain of salt. What else would an investor say about a hefty amount placed on the table to back them, if not that the startup's ideas (and that's all they are at this point, ideas, regardless of how good they are) would be at least a couple of years ahead of competitors? Maybe so, but first they have to set up shop.
I have no reasons to discredit the new company's claims regarding their directions, at this point. That would be hard to do without them making their strategy known in lucid terms. Nor do I have any reason to believe the validity of those claims at this time, either.
I'll reserve further opinion until they take the veil off their platform design at the upcoming show, and let explain their stance in technical terms. What I've seen thus far in the way of direction, and the means they have of getting there, leaves an awful lot to interpretation. I've seen enough early posturing on their part to hold me for now. Show me the photons.
