"The terminal service that Microsoft ships is kindof like Microsoft Notepad."

Scott and Mike B.,
I wonder if Microsoft agrees with the comment above?<G> Scott's post was a very well written view of looking at the glass half full. I could do the same but with the half-empty view. But I think for everyone following our conversations closely, they know what it would say. But I do have another, glass half full, point that Scott brushed on.

MSFT isn't going to be pushing, "Thin-Client." Just go to try to find it on their web site and you'll see what I mean. Now go to the Citrix web site and see the difference. Next go to everyplace where MSFT products are sold, and you'll find the same sort of enthusiasm for Thin-Client as MSFT has (per Network World).

But go to one of the 10,000 (per Ray's shareholder meeting notes) Citrix Solution Providers and see what solution they offer to reduce TCO, for remote access, for rapid deployment, for Y2K solution, etc. These people don't have Citrix written all over their front door. They are, "Networking Professionals," selling all kinds of services but also are licensed to sell Citrix products.

In other words, the people who push Windows 2000 Terminal Services are the same ones who offer the Citrix solution. So as goes Windows 2000 Terminal Services, so goes Citrix. VERY strange relationship as I have stated before. But it appears to be working. Ironically, maybe what we ought to be fearing is a full-blown Microsoft push behind Thin-Client. But I doubt that will happen.

Short-term, what we really should hope for is the 90% plus Citrix overlay on top of all Windows 2000 Terminal Services activated. This may happen if the reviews of Win 2000 Terminal Services(sans MetaFrame) is as bad as the Win 3.51NT TSE and Win 4.0NT TSE products.
