Have you tried the vine-ripened tomatoes that are sold on a bit of their own vine? I see them packed in mesh, usually three, maybe four or five, on one vine. I bought some earlier this year that were from the Netherlands, and then I bought some a couple of weeks ago that were from, I think, Utah. Both sets were delicious, and I feasted on tomato sandwiches. French bread, lots of Hellman's mayo. They are expensive, of course, on a relative basis (relative to the nasty tomatoes), but not on an absolute basis (think of them as being an exotic fruit, which they are), maybe $4 a pound. |
