Hi Mindshare. I guess this is what we are saying. In the end if what is deemed necessary in the DeBakey unit is valves, my understanding is that is the case already, then we add complexity to this unit, then sophisticated monitoring requires complex internal circuitry implanted in the Debakey, then "variable speed addition" would increase that complexity....in the end what you have is a unit that is as complex as Heartsaver and still has a cable running out of the body.

If I may be so bold as to state the obvious. The unique part of Heartsavers device is the "little hydraulic cylinder" that operates the system. (I am a qualified Hydraulics and computer technician, an offshoot of spending years in Submarine service). Using the Hydraulic cylinder of Heartsaver to propel fluid forward in the upstroke and downstroke could easily produce a constant speed "non-pullsatile unit. The circuitry accompanying the unit, could also then "at will" be switched to a pullsatile unit by varying the timing of the cylinder movement.

My guess is that Worldheart will not be left behind in either "pullsatile or non-pullsatile units"! The $39MM in the bank will likely help them do needed research into feasability, as well as get them thru the upcoming trials. We will see this "little Hydraulic cylinder" and the TET showing up in more than one device in the future!
