RE: Opinion on Overall Market as related to IOM

I think that everyone will agree with you on the performance of the general market (large caps mostly up, most others flat or down) since July. It's something that I have observed myself, and I have my own opinions on why it is happening.

A big part of it may be mutual funds. Their popularity has really grown, and they tend to invest in larger companies for several reasons. General stability is one, but the ability to get in and out without making a major movement (and eroding their profits) is another main concern.

I think the main question we have to ask is this: Is this a permanent change in the way that the market operates, or is it temporary? If it is permanent, we are better off leaving the small- and mid-caps and moving to large-caps like the herd. If it is temporary, we are better off shifting to small- and mid-caps to avoid the correction to large-caps and capitalize on the shift back to the undervalued small- and mid-caps.

I have made the shift to back to small- and mid-caps, and am hoping to capitalize as the market inevitably (IMHO) shifts back that direction.

The core of my portfolio is now in: BTF, IOM, and BORL, with market caps ranging from $250M to $2B.

I certainly hope to hear some other opinions on this, and also hope that someone takes the initiative to start a new thread if we drift too far from IOM.
