New store under construction

5/23/99 - CompUSA Plans Store in Southwest Fort Worth, Texas
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

May 22 (Fort Worth Star-Telegram/KRTBN)--FORT WORTH, Texas--CompUSA plans to begin construction soon on a 28,500-square-foot store off Bryant Irvin Road in southwest Fort Worth, the Dallas-based retailer said yesterday.

Suzanne Shelton, director of public relations at CompUSA, said that the store should open in the fall but that she could not be more specific. A lease for the site was recently signed, she said.

The store will feature some of the technology retailer's new concepts in store design, such as children's and arcade areas, as well as an area to display personal information devices, Shelton said.

The store, at 4565 Bryant Irvin Road, will be near a newly opened Lowe's Home Improvement store and a Kohl's department store that is under construction.

According to city building permits, cost of construction for the CompUSA store has been placed at $1.1 million.

This is CompUSA's first store in Fort Worth and third in Tarrant County. The other two are in Arlington and Hurst. The new store is one of 10 that CompUSA plans to open this year, Shelton said.

Shelton said the store is being added because "it's a good market."
The store will employ 70 to 80 full- and part-time employees, she said.

CompUSA, founded in 1984 as a direct-to-business software retailer, has 218 stores nationwide. It has been known as CompUSA since 1991.
