ED....my sentiments exactly!!! This is just typical "tax selling" by Mr. Gerstner that's needed each year, where, on threads like this, lots of speculators rush in to yell..."the sky is falling, the sky is falling" (Happens EVERY year - see entries from same time last year).

Not that it matters, but the stock split "...is for holders of record on 5/10/99, to be distributed on 5/27/99." I would assume this to mean that if you were in by 5/10, that you PPS would drop in half and the no. of shares would double as of this 5/10 date, and you (and the market) will see it on 5/27. I think lots of folks/co's. will buy in to IBM just prior to the 5/27 date driving the price up a bit, stay in this range for a small period, see some pullback (not large), and then continue its upward rise, especially towards the end of 2Q.
