Paul, I tend to agree with you on Intel's portfolio holdings.

Intel appears to have quite a diverse portfolio whose ROI appears to be quite healthy (many of the known/public companies in Intel's portfolio have demonstrated excellent ROI.)

CMGI has absolutely wonderful and excellent holdings. CMGI might be somewhat restricted in the sense that it might invest in companies which augment its existing portfolio, e.g. Ancestry.com might use one of CMGI's other portfolio companies for a particular type of service.

I do not sense Intel has this type of restriction. Intel's guidelines might be:
* it has to be an exceedingly good company
* match with Intel's strategy and future
* it has to fuel more chips
Even the later requirement is becoming somewhat looser in the last year, as Intel targets the network industry and opens up new potential initiatives beyond the scope of the chip industry.
