While the vagueness of the article makes it difficult to evaluate the new Lucent product, one can at least say with certainty that if the product is not CDMA based, it is INHERENTLY less efficient than CDMA. While it may improve performance of existing cellular networks, it is probably, at best, a temporary measure. The trend, regardless of other available improvements, is moving toward CDMA systems, which carry more conversations/data on a single channel than other systems.
