TCP/IP is a standard...Real Audio is not a standard...RealAudio is DELIVERED by a standard. Anything else that compresses Audio and Video to the other end of the pipe to a player is also not a standard. I could have ten different streamed players on my machine - none of them would be a standard either - a standard monopolizes the hardware and the information delivery software eg. IP - not the contents. In the case of RealAudio - the contents are just scrambled bits packaged in an admittedly clever manner - however anyone else could deliver similarly scrambled bits in their own proprietary way...the analogy with VHS and Beta is not apt.
