Our resident expert on the Intel thread, Paul Engel, responded about the huge chip area of the playstation CPU, saying that with die shrinks, it'll get small soon enough. Also, as he points out, the money is in the software for these games. Sony can practically give away the hardware and make money.
About Symbios, I just remembered about talking to a Symbios sales rep at the stockholders meeting. She said that they were "holding their breaths" at Symbios when it appeared as though Adaptec was going to acquire them. She said they all breathed a sigh of relief when Adaptec backed off. So, Symbios almost didn't happen for LSI. The storage business is going bonkers. I own a few shares of EMC, and, every day, it seems, I read about another new development, whether a company like Dell or Sun or HP going into it more heavily with new products, or new alliances, etc. And, Y2K is a no-op wrt storage, or it makes for more business.
Get this tech slump behind us and let's get going again!
