(Slightly OT as EGGS not mentioned) For those with access, TSC has run an interesting series on e-commerce today. "Dot-Com Dissipation" thestreet.com "Retail's Plan to Snuff Out the Dot-Competition" thestreet.com "Everything Must Go ... Online: The Battle for Christmas Shoppers Will Be Hard Fought" (part 1) thestreet.com (part 2) thestreet.com (part 3) thestreet.com "Probing Deeper: InfoSpace.com's Search Party" (describing a new shopping search engine listing both web & neighborhood b-n-m retailers) thestreet.com Two things interesting in these stories -- 1) Cramer's idea that analog retailers have "allowed" etailing competition to easily capitalize through equity sales (e.g. get financial resources directly from the public rather than banks, bond market, etc.)and 2) ultimately retailing and etailing will likely merge as b-n-m monsters finally get their acts together and develop, buy, or kill competition. Everything says the space is tough and getting tougher, but it is the future.
