I can't tell you for sure what the specialist MUST do, for I am not sure that there is an absolute. I'd say that often I see the NYSE matching third market or other regional quotes, yet I have also seen the NSYE lock the market. THus, you bid at 1/4 would probably be displayed, yet the specialist might want to be competitive if the size isnt' too great and fill you. Regards, Steve@yamner.com
