Late hour "trading" will primarily be used by people who have real jobs and cant play with the market on the job, but also do some position trading.
Speaking from past personal experience its very hard to place an order overnight and not know until the next day when you come home from work whether the order executed or not. Even if the trading is thin and the spreads a little high you will be able think about what you are doing and get your order filled. I doubt you will find many people trying to do pure daytrading.
I wonder if after hours trading might reduce the number of market orders at the 9:30 open that we see now.
