Mel, you are not pulling my leg? I thought you were in California, perhaps in the Bay area? Esalen was (is?) an institute for fringe psychology that Tom Wolfe immortalized in one of his books (I can't think of which now... as I said, the memory is not perfect). It was heavily into Primal Scream, therapeutic group grope, and other attempts to get in touch with one's inner, primitive self....
