I had a similar problem. I decided how I wanted it solved, then posted a question asking if anyone knew of a product that would help.

A reply came with the Drive Image URL powerquest.com

It looked like exactly what I was looking for; and at a good price too. I found it in a store locally quite a bit cheaper than the online offer, plus a $15 mail-in rebate.

This product exceeded my expectations for convenience and speed. After a major mess-up, it would take me an hour to get Win98 back, and another hour for PCRESTOR to do its thing. Then I'd manually fix the stuff that didn't 'make it back.' This last part could take days.

Starting from scratch, the last time I loaded, and configured, Win98, my software, and my working environment, I spent 12 hours. Fine tuning followed.

The first time I ran Drive Image to copy my disk, the program took 3 minutes. (That's not a typo -- three minutes!!) The first time I had to use Drive Image to restore my system, it took 12 minutes. Needless to say, I'm pleased.

I don't have 3 gig of stuff. You're milage will vary. Your machine is faster.

Like others posted, I copy my stuff to a different partition on the same drive. Copying the stuff to Zip drives takes a little longer. I'm tempted to call my data 'boomerang' because it comes back so fast.

Hope this helps, PW.
