When I read your message on the teachers union where you live, I thought you lived near me in Florida. We have a 50% dropout rate here also.

As for books, I have a good one for you to read. It's title is "The Road To Serfdom" by Friedrich A.Hayek. It's published by University of Chicago Press, copyright 1944. It's 250 pages. Publication of Common Sense, Das Kapital, and Mein Kampf gave rise to events whose effects we feel today. The Road to Serfdom is destined to become the center of a controversy that will gain the excited attention of all America. The author, world-famous economist from the 1930's warns the free nations that the extended collectivism toward which we are gradually veering is incompatible with democracy, that social planning may eventually cause the end of all individual freedom, political as well as economic. The author goes into detail about the historical corellation between individual freedom and economic prosperity. He predicted in the 1930's the economic downfall of socialist countries and countries moving toward socialism. He names countries and he predicts economic hardship for the Soviet Union (along with all socialist countries, England and France. Since England was considered the strongest country in the world in the 1930's it was a gutsy call.

I wonder what he thinks about AOL?
