DJ Qualcomm's CFO: Expects Less Reliance On Korean Sales

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) will be reducing the reliance on its Korean wireless phone sales,
which recently plummeted over a one-month period due to regulatory changes in Korea, according to the company's chief
financial officer, Anthony Thornley.

Projecting $10 million in cell-phone sales in Korea for this year, Thornley said, however, that the recent decrease in sales
won't hurt the overall numbers.

In a CNBC interview Thornley said the "Korean consumer is becoming less and less of the factor in our business."

Currently, he said, Korean sales represent almost a quarter of the company's worldwide sales of those products.

Thornley said he was comfortable with analysts' earnings projections. "Certainly we're confident about this year and we
see progress into 2000," he said, adding that growth will be being fed by royalties, basic sales and phone sales in
Qualcomm's code division multiple access technology business.

A First Call survey of 13 analysts put Qualcomm's third-quarter earnings at 59 cents a share and the fiscal 1999
estimate at $2.10.
