Keith,
Your observations are quite typical with those of anyone who has gone through the same exercise. Nine times out of ten, Dell wins on price and service. In an environment of falling prices, component and PC's, how can traditional models compete with a brutally efficient direct model. No wonder its competitors are scrambling to emulate Dell. However, with daily direct internet sales of $18 million and counting, Dell's competitors face a monumental challenge in attacking Dell's dominance in this area. Has it occured to the market that it is willing to pay stratospheric multiples for anything internet or E-commerce, whether a company sells soap, socks, or CD's, yet here you have perhaps the greatest internet company on the planet, with $18 million in real sales selling a commodity that is a critical part of the world's internet/information technology explosion. I humbly submit to you that going forward, Dell will outperform in the PC sector. |
