NEW YORK, May 24 (Reuters) - Thermo Electron Corp. (NYSE:TMO - news), the parent of an array of public technology-related subsidiaries, said Monday it is expanding upon a previous restructuring plan by taking four more of its public units private.

The company, which expects to take a $450 million charge primarily in the second quarter, said it is now trimming the number of its public spinouts to 11. Last December, Thermo Electron had said it would cut the number of public units to 15 from 23.
