News Conference Will Announce First Digital Reverse Products
Be sure to attend Scientific-Atlanta's news conference on Tuesday, May 25 from 2-3 p.m. in Room 203C of the Orange County Convention Center. The company will announce the first in a new family of products designed to increase network capacity for interactive services. Scientific-Atlanta's new bdr(TM) products will employ baseband digital reverse technology and include a suite of solutions that will enable cable operators to better handle the large amounts of multimedia traffic expected in the critical reverse path portion of the network as interactive services such as Internet TV and telephony are deployed. Visitors to Scientific-Atlanta's booth can view live demonstrations of the first bdr products operating in a typical network configuration.
See Latest Services For Explorer 2000 Set-Top
Scientific-Atlanta will showcase the latest services on its award-winning Explorer 2000 advanced digital set-top, which has already been commercially launched this year to sites throughout North America. New services to be exhibited in conjunction with this popular digital platform include Internet TV and email, as well as a new Centralized System Management solution for comprehensive management and operation of a digital cable system.
Advanced Analog Expands Interactive Offerings
Advanced analog set-tops are a powerful vehicle for cable operators to introduce new interactive services and immediately generate new revenue, while paving the way for digital. The 8600X(TM) advanced analog set-top and system on display will support interactive applications such as WorldGate Internet TV Over Cable and Virtual Channel Express(TM) software later this summer. The latest system upgrade, Version 4.7, which is expected to be available this summer, enables operators to download new applications and services without the requirement of a truck-roll. New features include support for the WorldGate service, high-resolution virtual channels with graphics for new revenue-generating advertising and branding and new multi-streaming scrambling technologies to accept multiple types of data.

New Network Technology On Display
Additional network components that will be introduced at SCTE include:
* The Prisma(TM) Model 6944 Segmented Node, designed to support the
increased traffic demands of new interactive TV services. It offers
unprecedented flexibility for a node product, enabling cable operators
to custom-configure the node according to their unique service
offerings and network architecture. It is expected to be available for
shipment in late June.
* New Prisma 1550 nanometer and 1310 nm laser transmitters provide
operators with the ability to transmit longer distances with a cleaner
signal while maintaining high performance standards. Each is offered
in several power output ranges to match a variety of network
requirements and expected to be available for shipping July 1.
* The Prisma DT Model 2564 QAM IF decoder, which enables broadband
operators to deliver 256 QAM digital video streams directly over SONET.
The IF decoder is part of a new generation of products designed for
Scientific-Atlanta's Prisma(TM) Digital Transport products being
introduced to allow digital video and Scientific-Atlanta Explorer 2000
set-top interactive traffic to be carried to multiple hub locations
from a centralized digital headend.
* The Series 2500 video modulators, a new line of frequency-agile video
modulators that saves cable operators time and money when adding new
channels or replacing existing equipment. The Series 2500 video
modulators include models for 50-550 MHz and 550-870 MHz bands. They
are expected to be available for shipping in July.
